Turn off Your Workstation
Save money, and help the environment by making sure your computer is turned off or put to sleep before you go home. This also extends to other electrical devices in not only your workplace, but home as well.

Why should you join?
* It's very easy to do - just shutdown before you leave work, or Sleep the computer if you have things you want to leave open and continue with the next day.
* It can help save money in terms of saving electricity.
* It can help save the environment by reducing unnecessary emissions.
* It will reduce unnecessary wear and tear on your hardware, making it last longer, saving you money on replacements, and again helping the environment.

Sleep your Mac
If like me, you tend to be working with a lot of things at once on your Mac, it can be annoying to have to close everything to shutdown at the end of the day, only to have to re-open everything the next morning to carry on.The Sleep function of Mac OS X is much more powerful than most sleep states, in that it actually sus...

turn off or leave on? some tips
From the Guardian: The Energy Savings Trust concluded that if you're leaving your computer for less than an hour, it's probably not worth turning it off. So if your lunchbreak is an hour long, your conscience must be your guide. The Energy Saving Trust also made a couple more useful points. Always make sure you have activated all th...

Sleep VS Hibernation
What's the difference between Sleep and Hibernation on your computer? The sleep mode on your computer is actually a very low power state where most of the computer's hardware is powered down, with only minimal power keeping the contents of the computer's memory (or RAM) saved. In Mac OS X, this is actually called Sleep, where in Windows, you will see it referred to as Standby.Read more »

Shut Down rather than Sleep
If everyone shut down their computer when they go home at night rather than just putting it to sleep we'd save a heck of a lot of power and it's really easy to do it too!

The First Post
Hey everyoneWell this is my first blog post regarding the Turn off Your Workstations campaign, and I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who is supporting the campaign in their own workplaces. This campaign is more about raising awareness than raising money. Most people will work with a computer, or use a computer at home, and if we all just remember to turn off when we're done, the electricity we can save will help the environment, not to mention our own pockets. And remember this extends to more than just computers - televisions, videos, games consoles, basically anything electrical - if you're not using it, turn it off! Thanks again for the support!Ryan

Great gadget for helping you save energy
I got a freebee from The Energy Saving Trust called a 'PowerDown' (apparently made by e-on). Basically you plug all your peripherals into it (speakers, monitor, printer etc) and then when you turn your computer off it automatically turns all the rest off. Clever eh?
