Letter to the Prime Minister

Dear Mr. Gordon Brown, Prime Minister,

It was with great happiness that I learned that you are working on an aid plan to help the third world countries struggling with the effects of climate change. However, recently I have learned that you intend to give this aid as grants through loans and I must inform you of my disappointment.

We all know exactly who has contributed the most to climate change, and therefore, making the poor countries pay for the damage with interest, is highly unethical. I have learned from the Guardian that the U.S. is behind this proposal and I find it tragically ironic that the world's biggest C02 emitter would let someone else pay for their mess.

So, I ask you Mr. Prime Minister, is the U.S. really the right ally in this matter? Surely with the current U.S. administration's mishandling of this issue, Europe is far more morally superior on the issue of climate change.

I kindly ask that the Prime Minister clarify the official position of the government. If the Prime Minister really intends to stand on the side of the world's biggest contributor to climate change on this issue, please give your valid reasons and explain how you can make the third world pay for the damage that we in the rich countries have caused.

If this is not the intention, then I kindly ask the Prime Minister to reveal his intention and plans to make the climate aid free without any strings attached. Also I would be very interested in hearing the Prime Minister's thoughts on a carbon trading plan that will pay for combating climate change as the Prince of Whales has suggested.

I look forward to your reply.

Best wishes,
