Why should you join?
FARM-Africa aims to support the recovery of farming livelihoods in Gogrial county of Northern Bahr al Ghazal State. Services are being delivered to local people through a Mobile Outreach Camp (MOC).
FARM-Africa has pioneered the use of MOCs, through which a mobile team can take the project to the communities rather than just establishing sedentary headquarters. We are training over 80 Community Animal Health Workers to treat basic diseases and provide advice on healthcare, which has the potential to benefit over 81,000 farmers.
The programme area lies in the western flood plains agro-pastoral zone where there is a stronger representation of livestock in an overall agro-pastoral farming system and the primary beneficiaries are 18,614 households (approximately 111,684 people) who directly benefit from the programme in Gogrial West County.
The main focus of the programme is a balance between service provision and sustainable livelihoods and is based on providing short term support to returnees and their host communities and technology and skills transfer through action research, participatory training and, institutional strengthening at community and local authority levels.
The programme has six main aspects: programme management and support; water resources development; participatory community development planning; animal health & livestock development; support to sustainable agriculture development; and policy advocacy & dissemination.
Partners
We work in partnership with the Ministry of Animal Resource and Fisheries (MARF) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF). We are also working with a local NGO, SUPRAID, to supply families in Gogrial West with boreholes water points, giving up to 8,000 families access to clean water for domestic and agricultural use. We are also working with Shallow Well International to train local communities to build their own water points that are easy to maintain by the communities.
Donations are essential for the work of Farm Africa with African farmers and herders. If you want to make a donation click "Donate".
