About Esther van Bijsterveld
My Environmental Objectives: stimulate people (my students and friends) to use organic products -food, cleaning, health care etc.- stay informed on ecological activities in The Netherlands like on www.dekleineaarde.nl and more, and act upon the it.
People I admire: Nelson Mandela, Quakers, and all people who make an effort to live fiery and peacefully
Things I would like to change: more organic products and as small an ecological footprint as possible: to make people aware of the necessity of this
About me: curious creature, wonders about everything and likes to share that with others, to get wiser/more puzzled, and inspired in the process
Activities: teacher: in Dutch language and literature, to high school students activist: i.e. active ecologically, creatively, in health (food- and bodywise)
Interests: reading, writing, watching and making art, cooking, playing tennis, swimming in the sea, trees, birds
Favorite Music: lots, but recently: Souad Massi, Waterboys, David Gray, Johny Cash, Nick Drake, and since longer time: Jimmy Dludlu, Louis Mhlanga and Vusi Mahsela, Handels Allelujah, Tori Amos, Indigo Girls, Billy Holiday
Favorite Films: Dogma movies, Warmerdam movies, Amelie, La Pianiste, The hours
Favorite TV shows: nothing at the moment
Favorite Books: diaries and books by Virginia Woolf, plays by Harold Pinter. In Dutch: Op weg naar het einde van Gerard Reve, verhalen van Belcampo, Koolhaas, Ruebsamen, Uphoff, en gedichten van Lucebert, Herzberg, e.a.
Favorite Quotes: to ask questions is the piety of thinking (by Heidegger) and have the courage to use your brains (by Kant)
Political Views: recently I have found a friend who is liberal and I like his opinions: not too much pampering from government, but a lot of encouragment towards individuals to take responsibility, as the creators of this site do!

By the way, Sacha and I saw the Indigo Girls live a few months ago. It was fabulous and they played lots of music from their latest CD, which is the best in many years. I still owe you a debt of gratitude for introducing me to them!

Hey Esther, How great to see you on Greenvoice, and what a very Dutch picture!!! I'm glad you like the site. It's a fascinating project and has the potential to make a real difference, which really excites me! Delighted to hear that life is smiling at you partly thanks to the internet!
Things are great here in Sussex with our 3 wonderful kids (I'll post a photo on my page soon) in the countryside. You should come and visit!
